  • When do the nominations close?
    Nominations open on Nov 15, 2023, and close on Mar 1, 2024, 11:59 PM ET.
  • When will the winners be announced?
    The winners will be announced in 2024 after the five top finalists have been selected by the judging committee following the Obsidi member public voting period. The exact date will be shared shortly.
  • Can I self-nominate?
    All Obsidi Awards nominations must be done as a self submission. The author of the nomination form is considered the prospective winner.
  • Are the Obsidi Awards only eligible to Obsidi members?
    Yes, correct. To be eligible to win an Obsidi Award you must be an Obsidi member. Obsidi membership is free. Please review the instructions to learn how to complete the steps and submit a nomination:
  • How many awards will be given in total?
    Only nine awards will be distributed in total.
  • Who is eligible to win an Obsidi Award?
    • Black-identified racialized professionals of African descent and allies within the select award category identified.
    • All nominees and winners must be an Obsidi member. An Obsidi membership is FREE and can be secured on In addition, please review the award description and categories on our website for more details.
    • All nominees and award recipients must reside in either Canada or the United States.
  • How are the Obsidi Award winners selected?
    All Obsidi Award recipients are selected through a combination of the following stages: 
    1. Initially identified via a nomination submission form of an Obsidi member sent no later than March 1, 2024, 11:59 PM ET. 
    2. Obsidi member public voting process 
    3. Award committee of judges composed of industry professionals
  • Do submitted votes have to come from real people?
    Yes. We are dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent voting process for our awards. Therefore, votes submitted through temporary or disposable email addresses, email spoofing, spam bot tools, or fake voting email services will be deemed ineligible. Our goal is to celebrate and recognize the genuine achievements of our community. We encourage all participants to use legitimate methods when casting their votes.
